In general, we don’t have a big problem with cockroaches here in the Bay Area. We see them more often in multi-unit complexes where thorough cleaning controls the population. However, we do have a problem in the Bay Area with field roaches. They tend to come out in the hottest part of the year, and they’ll come inside and people think they have a cockroach problem, but they’re not the typical German cockroach. Treating around the perimeter with a natural insecticide and using sticky glue traps on the inside will take care of those. Often, people who are kind of embarrassed and wonder why they have cockroaches. Although the field roach is a form of a roach, it’s coming from the landscape and they don’t cause the same problems that other roaches do.
