Common House Spider:
One of the spider you may see around your home either interior or exterior may be the common house spider. These are generally a quarter-inch in length and a dull brown-yellow color. They often feed on flies, mosquitos, ants and wasps, and will create webs around the home to catch their prey. They do not actively bite humans and have low toxicity, but can be aggressive if they feel threatened. Adults, once they have reached maturity can live up to a year. Females spiders can have 17 egg sacs in that time with 100-400 baby spiders in each sac. We have special offers going on now to address these pests.
Common garden spiders may also be seen in trees and gardens around your home. They are between 6.5mm to 20mm in size and get larger through the summer. These vary in color from light yellow-brown to dark brown or grey. Mostly these are outside pests, and also feed on flies, mosquitos, and other common insects. They do not actively bite humans or pets, but like the house spider they may bite if they feel threatened.
False & True Black Widow:
There is a spider that has been quite prevalent recently in the Bay Area known as the false black widow. They are often slightly smaller than the black widow and are dark brown with lighter brown spots on their backs. Their habits are similar to the black widow in that they will hide in dark confined spaces. Like outdoor garden sheds or pool pump houses. The true black widows have very similar habits but usually will keep themselves hidden much better than the false. They are identified by their dark black color and a red hourglass shape on the underside of their abdomen. Like many spiders, they will not actively bite humans unless threatened.
Control over the population of these common spiders can be done with a regular maintenance program. This includes removal of webs and eggs sacs and treating with eco-friendly botanical pesticides to kill adult spiders. It is important to understand that full control or eradication of all spiders around a home is nearly impossible. The goal is to control the population limiting the likelihood that spiders will make their way inside structures.

GOT TERMITES? SCROLL DOWN
For every queen trapped and killed – especially in the spring – there will be one to five thousand fewer worker yellow jackets during the season.
From spring time until her death in the autumn, the queen remains inside the nest, laying eggs. The colony then expands rapidly, reaching a maximum size of 4,000 to 5,000 workers. Growing to a nest of 10,000 to 15,000 cells in late summer.
Facts About Yellow Jackets
Size: Worker – 12 mm/0.5 in long. Queen – 19 mm/0.75 in long
- Yellow Jackets are not usually aggressive unless the nest is threatened
- Can sting repeatedly and are also a potential health hazard
- Populations can soar towards the end of summer
- Common pests at picnics and outside functions, seeking residual sugars left in sweetened and fermented drinks, like sodas and beer
Traps baited with pheromones is an effective way to capture the mated queens before theystart laying eggs for the season.
Throughout the summer we can also bait for the active worker yellow-jackets that tend to cause the problems.
They gather this bait and take it back to the main nest where they share it with the rest of the colony. This combats the nest from the inside out. Using these methods in conjunction with each other is an effective way to be proactive in the Spring and Summer months.
